Young Jewish pianist explores her Persian roots

Shi'a Islam, as practised by the puritanical Iranian Mullahs, frowns upon secular music as a corrupting frivolous activity. Shops selling musical instruments in Tehran, mostly owned by Jews, have almost all closed down. So it is nice to see one Iranian-Jewish artiste exploiting her musical talents to the full in the freedom and safety of California. However, Tania Eshaghoff still looks to Iran for inspiration. Her latest album, 'A road to Tehran,' was inspired by the devastating Bam earthquake.
