Shi'a Islam, as practised by the puritanical Iranian Mullahs, frowns upon secular music as a corrupting frivolous activity. Shops selling musical instruments in Tehran, mostly owned by Jews, have almost all closed down. So it is nice to see one Iranian-Jewish artiste exploiting her musical talents to the full in the freedom and safety of California. However, Tania Eshaghoff still looks to Iran for inspiration.
