Syrian Mufti calls on Jews to return

Syrian Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun has called on Jews of Syrian origin to return to Syria, where they will enjoy the same rights given to every Syrian citizen, according to the Al-Arabiya website of 21 June 2007. (Via MEMRI)

He said that the property and synagogues of the Jews who left Syria remained as they were, and would be placed at the disposal of their original owners.

'Return' is all the rage: Muslims want preferential rights in Spain

  1. I would't trust this offer as far as I could spit. Arabs cannot be trusted. They say one thing toiday, and do something else tommorow.

Jews need to stay in Israel. Syria can make peace with Israel is it wants to support Jews. This of course, will never happen.

  2. I don't think you need worry, Jeff. Would you go back to prison if you'd tasted freedom?

  3. This is a very honest offer. Arab leaders often say exactly what they think. When the Sheik says "We will give you (the Jews) the same rights given to every Syrian citizen" he is being completely candid. What he means is that Syrian citizens have been given no rights. So the Jews are slated to get nothing too.

  4. Also, even if Syria were sincere about this, these kind of things have always changed like the wind in Arab countries. Treat us right to get the media attention, and then at the drop of a dime the problems of the world are the fault of the Jews. I think this is mainly a media ploy to make it sound as if they are concerned about giving an ample reason for a supposed Palestinian right of return. This is where I think Israel needs to be put Syrian Jews at the forefront of the press to describe the persecutions they historically faced at the hands of various Syrians regimes.

  5. MEMRI is not a credible source of information. It is known for mistranslating articles and TV programmes and selectivism in the media it showcases.

I also wonder what the Spain issue has to do with Syria?

How racist is this?? Can Jewish Arabs not be trusted either?? I'll leave then. I thought this site was a source of good information... after a closer look I see this is an extremist site.
