Senior Kurd welcomes non-political Israeli visitors

Kurdish-Israeli relations have always been warm. Just how warm is revealed to-day in the Iraqi newspaper Al-Zaman: (Via MEMRI)

A senior Kurdish politician and Iraqi MP said in an interview with the Iraqi daily Al-Zaman that he had accompanied the legendary Kurdish leader Mulla Mustapha Barazani during two visits to Israel in 1968 and 1973 to ask for weapons and for opening channels with the U.S.

He said that Israel supplied defensive weapons which enable the Kurds to strike at the Iraqi army.

He added that he did not object to Kurdish Jews who had immigrated to Israel visiting their remaining relatives in Kurdistan, provided such visits had no political purpose.
