The Nebi Daniel Association was set up to preserve and document Egypt's Jewish heritage for posterity - so far, no easy task.
The Association has just launched a beautiful and detailed website in English and French. Bookmark www.nebidaniel.org and contact the editor, Yves Fedida, with your views. If you are an Egyptian Jew fill in the form endorsing Nebi Daniel's aims and send it back to them. The website has an excellent list of links to sites and resources on Egyptian Jewry and Jews from Arab countries in general.

ReplyDeleteFor another interesting heritage site, check out http://www.sefrou.org. It's in French, but the portal for this Moroccan city (once roughly 70% Jewish) doesn't hide the city's Jewish roots, but actually embraces them. There's even a discussion board for youth.
ReplyDeleteThanks, anonymous, for recommending the Sefrou site. I thought the 'temoignages' particularly enlightening - according to Robert Boehm, the town (or is it a large village?) is a shadow of its former self. Anything to do with the fact the Jews have all left?
