It's Bat Yeor's account of her childhood in Egypt and how she and her family were driven out in the 1950s, how Egyptian nationalists were pro-Nazi during the Holocaust period, etc. It's in Italian so not everyone can read it, but for those who can it is fascinating.

http://www.informazionecorretta.com/main.php?mediaId=999930&sez=120&id=22902Eliyahu m'Tsiyonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07973268399414290195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12677825.post-2291555072169091442007-12-20T09:34:00.000+00:002007-12-20T09:34:00.000+00:00Thanks for the above link and references, Eliyahu....Thanks for the above link and references, Eliyahu. The trouble is, n my view, people don't read the books you mention - they do a quick Google search or go to Wikipedia. The WJC could do hisotry a real favour by making the Carole Basri available online in its entirety.bataweenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15829104245735619972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12677825.post-47416640498085293942007-12-20T09:21:00.000+00:002007-12-20T09:21:00.000+00:00This post is very interesting and Carole Basri has...This post is very interesting and Carole Basri has impressive credentials. Now, I only saw the summary on the WJC site that you linked to. But I should add that Haj Amin el-Husseini came to Baghdad sometime between 1938 and 1940, I forget exactly when. He was well received there and high Iraqi officials introduced him to a British representative who had come to Baghdad. I refer particularly to Nuri Said. Nuri wanted the British to agree to a "solution" in Israel agreeable to the Mufti Husseini. See link:
http://ziontruth.blogspot.com/2006/06/pro-nazi-mufti-of-jerusalem-enjoys.html

An Iraqi government commission set up to investigate the Farhud blamed Husseini and his entourage for stirring up the local Arabs against the Jews. That's probably true but also meant to exculpate Iraqi officials.

By the way, Fritz Grobba, the German diplomat mentioned in the post, wrote a book of memoirs about his doings in Baghdad, which is an important historical source. There are many references to Grobba in Lukasz Hirszowicz's book, The Third Reich and the Arab East, which is also an important source on the Mufti Amin el-Husseini.

Anon above rightly complains that information like this, which is not so hard to find [see Norman Stillman, Jews in Arab Lands in Modern Times (or similar title) and Malka Hillel Shulevitz, Forgotten Refugees (or similar title), inter alia], does not make its way into mainstream discussion of the Arab-Israeli conflict.Eliyahu m'Tsiyonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07973268399414290195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12677825.post-37824888431719796872007-12-20T07:33:00.000+00:002007-12-20T07:33:00.000+00:00Glad you like the post.
